The Basics

Vertical Crash

In this video you’re going to learn how to play a Vertical Crash. There are 7 parts to a Vertical Crash.

The breakdown:

  1. Vertical
  2. A Position
  3. V Position
  4. Contact
  5. Crash (to A)
  6. V Position
  7. Vertical

Important information:

  • Make sure your your A’s and V’s are shoulder width apart
  • Contact should be 2 inches inside the left cymbal
  • Make sure your cymbals flam (bottom to top) for the best sound quality
  • The crash is easiest to clean when you are mechanical with your motions

Bonus information:

  • If you have bigger hands that cover a lot of surface area past the pad, remove your fingers just slightly off your cymbals to help the cymbals vibrate and resonate
