Gumption Position

In this video you’re going to learn about Gumption Position. Gumption is the most common playing position. You can play just about any sound from starting here. It's a strong position because the cymbals are in front of you and not covering your face like Vertical Position.

Important definitions:

  • Cymbals take the angle of a seatbelt
  • Cymbals contained within torso, top of cymbals height of you shoulder
  • 2 inches apart
  • Arms the shape of a house
  • Elbows presented
  • Fingers spread out
  • One long line from your elbow through your fingers
